The Hong Kong Open is recognized as one of the region’s most prestigious golf championships with a unique and special history. Established in 1959, it is the oldest professional sporting event in Hong Kong. This year’s event will be the 57th edition of the tournament backed by UBS as the Title Sponsor and co-sanctioned by the European Tour, Asian Tour and the Hong Kong Golf Association. The tournament was held at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling from 22 – 25 October.
With UBS’s return as Title Sponsor, the prize purse for the UBS Hong Kong Open 2015 increased to USD 2.0 million in 2015, up from USD 1.3 million in 2014. The Hong Kong SAR Government’s Mega Events Fund supported the tournament in 2011 and 2012 and has extended its commitment to the 2015 tournament. Star names like Patrick Reed, Graeme McDowell, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Victor Dubuisson, Justin Rose and Dustin Johnson are amongst the many who came to compete for the title this year. In the end Justin Rose, the English World No.7th, won an epic battle against Lucas Bjerregaard to claim this year’s Champion Title.
Friends of Asia Hong Kong was designated as the Official Charity for this prestigious tournament. Our aim is to drive our charity efforts and raise funds to support disadvantaged youth and ill children in Hong Kong. Together with the UBS Hong Kong Open Charity Cup and matching from Friends of Asia Hong Kong, the tournament raised a total of HK$2.3 million, all of which will be donated to three worthy charities: Playright Hospital Play Services, InspiringHK Sports Foundation and The Autism Partnership Foundation.
