Autism Partnership Foundation- Training Program for Parents with Autistic Children: Promoting Early Identification and Intervention of Autism in Pre-School Settings
Training Program for Parents with Autistic Children is a series of specialized workshops, increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) across the community. Research shows that early intervention is key to minimizing autism’s effects; it is important to identify the early warning signs of ASD and to take appropriate actions. This program teaches with parents of pre-school students in Hong Kong to observe their child’s behavior, looking for specific symptoms to identify the earliest stages of autism, in order for children to get the help they need as quickly as possible.
The program will be divided into two levels. Level One is a two-hour Introductory Workshop which provides parents with basic information about ASD, including its definition, characteristics, diagnostic criteria, early signs, and overview of available treatments. Level Two consists of eight workshops, focusing on practical skills using the ABA teaching approach, requiring both parents and children to attend, and utilizes a range of different learning tools including video, role play and parent-child activities.
